The Human Face of Protest
Ukrainians had never realized they were capable of it, but this revolution changed the face of Ukrainian people. Hundreds of thousands of them united against fraud and corruption, against violence and humiliation to defend their dignity and their right for a European future. They demanded resignation of the president and the government. They stood their ground despite repressions, torture, and imprisonment, despite water cannons and grenades. They didn’t draw back when riot police snipers opened fire at them killing and wounding hundreds.
On February 22, 2014 the tyrant president Viktor Yanukovich fled to Russia.
